Committees


These committees are standing committees of the Board of Directors. Two members of the Board of Directors co-Chair each committee.

Membership Committee

Role

The primary role of the HIN Membership Committee is to identify strategies and develop activities for recruiting and retaining organisational and individual members on an annual basis. The committee may be involved in research, development and implementation of membership benefits and incentives

Committee Responsibilities

• The crafting of the Agenda and organization of the Quarterly meetings and Annual General Meeting of the Network
• The development of activities which are of interest to and contribute to the professional development of:
a) Member organizations committed to advancing their knowledge and expertise on the best practices for working with patient populations who have limited proficiency in English.
b) Interpreter practitioners who work in the health care sector.
• Identification of the benefits which are gained through membership of HIN and the development of material for communicating with the membership, through the website, newsletter articles.
• Development of membership service strategies and ensuring effective communication in routine membership management activities, such as updating contacts, renewal of Membership and membership fee collection.

Resource Development Committee

Role

To actively support HIN’s development program through the formulation of strategies and activities that will serve to facilitate the recruitment of corporate sponsors and the identification of private sector and government funding which may potentially support the advancement of the standards in the delivery of interpreter services in the healthcare sector.

Committee Responsibilities

• Development of an Annual Resource Development Plan this would include the identification of a priority activity – educational/resource development – to be undertaken by HIN.
• Identification of the resources necessary to the implementation of the plan.
• Identification of potential sources of financial or in kind support for the implementation of the Resource Development Plan.
• Make application to the identified sources of support.
• Oversee the implementation of the activity.

Policy and Community Development Committee

Role

The Committee formulates and develops the policies which guide the practice of the Healthcare Interpretation Network in all areas of its operation.

Committee Responsibilities

• To develop and revise as needed HIN’s Position Paper on the role of the trained healthcare interpreter in the delivery of services to patient populations with limited proficiency in English.
• To monitor and revise as needed the By-Laws which govern the operation of the Network.
• To work with the HIN membership on the dissemination of the HIN”s Position Paper and identify those organizations and institutions which might work with HIN on advancing the agenda outlined in the Position Paper.

Communications Committee

Role

This committee is charged with facilitating communication within the HIN membership and between HIN the general public and the network of healthcare organisations in Ontario.
The committee formulates and develops strategies for communicating HIN’s activities and engaging the exchange of information between the HIN membership and other interested bodies.

Committee Responsibilities

• The facilitation of a quarterly newsletter to be distributed via the HIN website.
• The identification of the themes to be addressed in the Newsletter and the recruitment of individuals who will contribute to the Newsletter.
• The coordination of the development of the Newsletter.
• The maintenance and development of HIN website
• The maintenance and development of HIN literature such as brochure, flyers, etc.
